Her Flow Came From The Beat Of Her Heart

My yoga journey ..

I was born with a rare form of congenital heart disease, which meant I had numerous heart surgeries to help me find my Prana ' life force energy'.


In my early teenage years, at just 14 years old, I was encouraged to try yoga as a coping mechanism with living with this chronic condition. I was told by my cardiologist that I had to find a way to learn to breathe and support my heart. As I would find it difficult to slow my heart rate down, especially after extensive exercise and over time day to day living became harder from relapses in my health but then that's where yoga truly healed everything.

Yoga was not only a rehabilitation tool for my heart, but also after a childhood of heart surgeries, I also discovered I had mild scoliosis (a curviture of the spine) at University. The pain of sitting in lectures was undoubtably tough, but again Yoga supported me to deal with the pain. Yoga not only helped me physically but also mentally - as for a while I felt lost. 


Yoga helped me rediscover my self worth and self love again and Ayurveda ( sister science to yoga) became my way of life. This way of life made me rediscover the meaning of life again.

After a battle of anxiety with my body and heart scars "my zippers as I call them now" I now look at myself as a wellness warrior and a happiness viber :) 

What can you expect from Fizz's classes?

The foundation of my practice journeys through the beauty of the physical asana, whilst also cultivating the inner heart-opening and spiritual journey. By integrating body, breath, movement, and meditative awareness, I'm able to promote awareness of the interdependency of all these aspects in personal health and wellbeing.

My unique creative flow classes, are based on a fusion of noticing how yoga is not just a physical practice, but an embodied practice. With the beauty of yoga philosophy, meditation, Ayurveda, unique sequencing and elements of therapeutic yoga. Fizz's classes are a powerful combination that forms a deeper journey within.

She says..

I honestly believe I was born with a broken heart to be fixed through yoga, Ayurveda and spiritual awakening. Sounds silly I know, but if you have been through something- its tough to not notice you're different and life can often be a struggle. I didn't find Yoga and Ayurveda, I truly believe these ancient sciences found me.

2020: AYURVEDA FOR YOGA TEACHERS (20 HRS)

Rhythm of Simplicity US

Ayurveda is the sister science of Yoga meaning ' The Science of Life'. 
This course offered me a deeper understanding of Ayurveda and how to Incorporate Ayurveda into not only my personal practice but support my students through the approach too.
Being able to recognise the doshas present in my students and tailoring a class according to the season, time of day, and other natural rhythms.  As well as understanding the science of Ayurvedic food with the 6 tastes. I've been able to find balance within my own body and grateful to offer this to students also. Taught by Justine Miller.

2020: YOGA FOR CANCER TT (40 HRS)

This course gave me tools to create a safe and healing environment to teach yoga and relaxation to anyone diagnosed with cancer and anyone with long term health conditions. Trained by Vicky Fox.

2019: YOGA FOR SLEEP DISORDERS & INSOMNIA TT
(40 HRS)

Yoga Campus

This course enabled me to learn the principles of Yoga Therapy for Insomnia and Sleep Recovery through a basis if the 5 Koshas and restorative yoga. Lisa Sanfilippo’s Yoga Therapy for Insomnia and Sleep Recovery was a unique synthesis of simple, essential yoga based knowledge, tools and resources to enable me skills to help people to sleep better, recover from insomnia and feel more alert.

2019: NUTRITION FOR CVD

British Nutrition Foundation

One day conference with leading professional. This day helped me develop an understanding on how nutrition plays a fundamental part in supporting those with cardiac conditions and CVD.

2019: ADVANCED ASSISTING & TOUCH METHODOLOGY TT
(50 HRS)

This course enabled me a deeper level understanding on the 'power of the touch in yoga' with competent and confident hands-on assisting techniques. Led by Michael James Wong.

2018: TEACHER TRAINING ASSISTANT FOR 200HR TT

Frame London

I was so pleased to be invited back to the Frame Academy TT, this time as an assistant teacher for the Fall 18 course. Within my role I helped run the teacher training and became a support system to all the teacher trainees, as well as the lead teachers. Helping the trainees find their way through their yoga teaching journey and be there in anyway I was needed to support. It was also a wonderful insight to dive back in the basics after a year of being a full time yoga teacher myself.

2018: YOGA FOR CARDIAC CONDITIONS & REHABILITATION TT (30 HRS)

Teaching those with cardiac conditions has always been a passion of mine, especially as I began my yoga practice through cardiac rehabilitation myself. This training provided me with an understanding of how yoga impacts the entire cardiovascular system -especially the heart- from a physiological, emotional, and spiritual approach. Trained by Sherezade Ruano (Founder of www.rhythmiabreath.com)

2017: 200HR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

Frame London

The Frame Academy ( Yoga Alliance Accredited) course prepared me to teach in the real world with a strong programme in teaching techniques, postural alignment, yogic history, philosophy and anatomy & physiology. Led by senior yoga teachers Michael James Wong and Emily-Clare Hill, (UK & US Yoga Alliance).

2015: BSC NUTRITION (HONS)

St Marys University, London

With a strong focus on the fundamentals of nutrition within a public health, clinical or sports setting. This degree programme provided me a sound review of the scientific evidence based nutriton for the links between dietary factors, health and disease.

This nutrition degree enabled me all the tools to successfully be accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AFN) as a Registered Associate Nutritionist, to support clients with nutritional needs, by providing evidence based nutrition. 

 

FIZZ IN THE NEWS

Not just a Yoga Teacher and Nutritionist.  Fizz is also a UK National Media Health Advocate, as well as a British Heart Foundation Heart Leader and Ambassador, the Deputy Lead Governor Patient Representative for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), Former Chair of The Young Peoples Forum, GOSH Charity and Hospital Ambassador and also a leading volunteer at Over The Wall Children's Chairty.

Nicknamed the 'heart breather' of the BHF. Fizz is an active young adult, with a passion to advocate for better heart health for all, especially clean air in the UK. Having being born with a long term cardiac condition, she suffers from the poor pollution in the city.

Fizz spoke Live on BBC on The Victoria Derbyshire Show, Sky News and BBC News on this topic and her heart journey.
